Made the mistake of checking Twitter today and instantly regretted it. Lots of screaming and fighting and a ridiculous rant about Scorsese and Coppola not liking Marvel movies because they don't pander to white boys. Did I wake up in an alternate universe or something?

Ha, it sure is! And yes, different genres, different purposes, like not every meal you eat has to be a work of culinary genius. Sometimes you just want pizza, and pizza can be yummy.
Tumblr reacting to mainstream media "reporting", which is designed to poke you to watch you jump, is so trying sometimes. In sherlock fandom, it goes around periodically, usually now with old recycled misquotes, which people have to be reminded are not given to inform, but to elicit the reaction. All us "fandom olds" have to remind ourselves each time.

God yes. I wish interviewers would stop asking everyone involved with Sherlock baited questions designed to rile the fan base. Especially when they're supposed to be talking about whatever project the person is actually working on/promoting.

Anyway. Yes. Some movies are meant to start conversations, make you think or bring awareness to something. And some are entertainment that provides an escape from reality (amusement park rides is a perfect comparison). Both are valid and you can like both and enjoy them for what they are.

exactly! You couldn't PAY me to go on a roller coaster, but I have nothing against anyone who enjoys them!
and those interviewers, grrr! You can see the actors getting fed up with them too!
