I spent today working on library programs for Black History Month. I do this around this time every year, but this year I decided to start early. Because it feels especially important this year to acknowledge black history, women's history, LGBT history, native history, etc. etc. I couldn't bear to turn on the television or listen to the radio (do you have any idea how noisy a car is when the radio is off?!). My Twitter feed today looks like it did for much of 2016: painful, drawn out and full of death (mostly figurative) and despair (entirely literal). Now that I'm home, I plan on doing my damndest to drink the pain away. Tomorrow, we march.

I would like to apologize to the world for my fellow Americans being stupid enough to elect a lunatic like this AND think she could possibly ever be president one day.

I know the world consensus is usually that Americans are a bunch of backward idiots. My greatest fear right now is that we're about to prove you right.

Our presidential election is on Tuesday and Republicans in several states are doing everything they possibly can to make sure the lying psychopath Romney wins. Lying, cheating, rigging voting machines (did you know it's apparently legal for a candidate's son to own the machines people are voting with in America?), you name it.

I don't want to live in a country where this kind of thing can happen so easily. I don't want to live in a country the rest of the world looks down on again. I hate being sneered at when I travel to Europe. I will do everything I can to make sure Obama wins and I hope the UN has Ohio and Florida under close watch on Tuesday because the leaders in those states are doing everything short of ripping up ballots filled out by Democrats (though they are threatening to do that too now). I don't think the world can survive the damage caused by a Romney presidency (day 1: war with Iran).

To my American friends: VOTE! Grab as many of those "unlikely voters" as you can and drag them to the polls! We cannot afford to let apathy decide this election like it did two years ago!

To my Canadian friends: brace yourselves for a potential surge of illegal immigrants/refugees.

To the rest of my international friends: please pray for us.

I've seen extremist whackos like this around my part of the country. Sometimes they address me directly, sometimes they just leave nasty messages on my car or in my inbox. There are neighborhoods I'm afraid to drive in anymore with the "Obama" bumper sticker on my car. A racist teabaggers lives just down the street from me and I'm terrified of him. I'm seriously considering taking my bumper sticker off before I go vote in November just to make sure nobody tries to drive me into a ditch to prevent me from helping to reelect the "socialist commie nigger". It's like the 60s all over again.

How does someone like this get elected to office to represent Americans? There are times I wish we had just let the South cede the union so we wouldn't have to deal with this kind of shit from Texas, Mississippi, Louisianna and Florida (it's ALWAYS these states). Of course we would still have to deal with Michele "Pray the Gay Away!" Bachmann up here in Minnesota. Can we just send her to Florida and give Florida back to Spain (assuming they would even take it)?

"In Internet posts, alleged #Oslo shooter advocates creating "a cultural Euro-version of a Tea Party movement." -- David Corn

The European version of the American gun-toting, astroturfing whackadoodle party killed nearly a hundred members of the Labor Party (left wing) in Norway. Is it any wonder I'm scared to live among people who think like this? People who think Michele Bachmann is their messiah, come to save them from all the Jew-loving, Commie-Socialist Homos? (Seriously, I still hear people around here complaining about "all them niggers". I'm not sure when we became North Mississippi).

The scariest part is not really that there are people like this in America. I've come to accept that America is full of degenerates who would rather bomb a women's health clinic than accept that sometimes abortions are necessary to save a woman's life. But when Europe starts producing nutballs like this, I start really worrying.
