Well, okay, maybe I just need some sane conversation.

I'm sorry, I've been really absent and neglecting you guys lately. I've been TRYING to write fic so I at least have a reason to post, but I keep getting sucked into the Huffington Post discussion boards. Most of the people there are nice, but some are really disturbed and scary. Like the Tea Party supporters who wax poetic about how they will take over the government and people like me (who they accuse of somehow ENCOURAGING people to quit their jobs and live on welfare) will be all but outlawed. Or the guys who accuse women of being sexist bitches for suggesting that women should not be told what they can and can't do with their bodies (or at least that they should be responsible by wearing a condom and respecting a woman's right to say NO).

This seems to be happening more and more on every news site I visit in the past few months. I'm beginning to really get scared for the future of this country. It's beginning to feel like the crazy people really have become the majority. Every other news story makes me angry, makes me cry or makes me want to flee to Canada.

This was usually the point when I threw myself into Lost fandom and fanfiction. I miss being able to do that so much. I mean, I still can, to an extent, but it doesn't provide quite the same level of distraction. It really was my sanity keeper. Nothing has been able to replace it so far.

Thank you. I'm sure all of you non-Americans are tired of hearing me rant about politics, but I always try to stay informed about what's going on in the news. Lately, that seems to involve reading a lot of vile attacks on our President and everyone who voted for him for no particular reason other than he is black and Fox News told them he is evil somehow. And there's the whole World War Three developing in the middle east thing, which people in the American media have twisted totally out of perspective to justify their hatred.

Sigh. I'll try to get back to writing now, I promise!

Politics are crap wherever you go! I guess we have it differently in that our country is small and the politics are general countrywide rather than segregated and different depending on state. If it's any consolation, I could rant for ages too :)

Yeah, I hear you're trying to crack down on politicians being bought by corporations. If it's any consolation, at least you guys seem to be taking steps in the right direction. We seem to be trying to make things worse.

Yes...not having to worry about state laws conflicting with federal laws would be lovely. We have a couple states actively trying to break federal laws in order to undermine the president (i.e. getting his name removed from their ballot). We may be headed toward another civil war at this rate.
