Why is Twitter like this?

A Sherlock Holmes Twitter account I follow retweeted a quote from the last episode of "Elementary" last season where Sherlock described the platonic but deep love he and Joan have for each other. I retweeted it with a note that this was one of the ways "Elementary" was a better adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's stories than "Sherlock". I found out too late that the original poster being retweeted was one of those "Sherlock" fans whose favorite past-time is making fun of how awful every other adaptation is to bolster their love for "Sherlock". It went something like this:

Her: No, Sherlock is WAY better than Elementary. I'm just watching Elementary because I'm bored of waiting for Season 5. Sherlock is the best show ever.
Me: [thinking "what does this have to do with what I said comparing it to ACD?", goes to type, but doesn't get a chance before she continues]
Her: Sherlock has way better acting and more exciting plots and Benedict is so much sexier than Jonny...
Me: [trying not to laugh and resisting the urge to pretend I can't understand because she has her head so far up Mofftiss' ass] Please stop.
Her: Wow. You are being so disrespectful. I mean, I am being so tolerant of the fact that you clearly love Elementary more than Sherlock even though that's not even close to what you said originally and I've spent approximately five tweets telling you you are crazy for this stupid opinion, but... 
Me: [deletes entire thread and blocks her because clearly that is the only way to make this insanity stop]
Her: I just tried to call a woman out on how rude she was being and she deleted the tweet instead of apologizing for having an opinion I disagree with! Elementary fans are so rude!
